Tuesday [26 July 1853]

In case you have no letter from Scotsbrig direct Dear here is one for me that I found at Maryland st yesterday afternoon1— Thanks for yours of this morning—I am getting over my bad turn. but am not quite well yet— They press me very much to stay longer than Thursday, and since I am ‘out’ perhaps I had best take another day or two— You were to go to Addiscombe at the end of the week I think I understood— So if I do not come on Friday I will not till Monday or whatever other day you come back in the course of Nature— I got a most pressing invitation from Auchtertool on the road to the Station on Saturday morning

What a botch has been made of my travels—that makes Moffat House the key stone

Poor Mr Schwabe is suddenly dead2
