Chelsea, 31 May, 1854—

Dear Neuberg,

It seems a long time since we have seen you, or distinctly heard of you: come on Sunday evg, if you can;1 we shall be quite alone, and disengaged at that time, so far as I know.

I am but sadly off here at present; and cannot, by all the art I have, get my wide Brandenburg wilderness brought subject to the plough at all. I foresee a dreadful fight yet (as bad as Cunersdorf2 almost) before that be got done!

Yours ever truly /

T. Carlyle
