JWC TO JOSEPH NEUBERG

[21 March 1855]

Dear Mr Neuberg

I think I must have been bewitched when I said “any day this week, excepting the day of fasting and humiliation”1—being engaged at the time to drive with Thomas Erskine on Friday—and lunch with Mrs Farrer2 on Saturday besides the dinner at the Lowes' on Wednesday

So we must put it off till another week indeed the weather is again so cold that it is best so—

Yor ‘jar’ or ‘vase’ had a narrow miss yesterday of being given away to another man!!!3

Ever truly yours /

Jane W Carlyle
