My dear Sir,

Thanks for Theresia. Please give me the translation of , and , or what these words would mean:1 Schneider would not tell me when I last inquired.2

There was another question I forgot: What is the meaning of Grätz, which one finds as an appendage to the names of some German Towns? One old monster of a lexicographer I have translates it by Gradecium (“base-Latin Gradecium”), but does not tell me what “Gradecium,” according even to his notion, may signify.3 There is, as you know, besides the Styrian Town Grätz,4 a Königsgrätz (which I believe to be rightly Konigingrätz, according to the old name of it) in Bohemia.5
