TC TO JOSEPH NEUBERG
Chelsea 2 feby 1858—
Thanks again for your ever-prompt services! I believe the Abstract will be of real use,1 and mainly help me over that ugly stile. But the first thing is, you must bring or send me back the Preuss volume,—for except of Voltaire's Letter2 I can find no original among my Books. Tomorrow, or day after will do very well,—or indeed any time soon; for I can skip (or have already skipped) till the Book come.
If I had the least strength left, I might end these foul leaves in a week or two; but I seem to be quite drowned in disgusts, and to have no heart left in me to contend with the sordid element,—so it may last me months.
Yours ever truly / T. Carlyle 3
