Thomas Cooper (1805–92; ODNB; see TC to TCO, 1 Sept. 1845), previously a Chartist; he moved to Stoke Newington, 1854 (The Life of Thomas Cooper Written by Himself [1872] 346). Cooper narrowly escaped death in a train crash, 10 May, and, as a result, gave up his post as a copyist for the Board of Health and began a three-month tour at the end of May, preaching and lecturing on the “Evidences of Natural and Revealed Religion” (Life 375–78).
