Chelsea (Saturday), 14 May 1859—

Dear Ng,

There is nothing new here; or nothing new that is good (a death sad to us has happened at Falmouth; a cousin of my wife's;1 a very fine young soul, tragically cut off);—and we are weltering about, with little progress, in this inclement element;—nothing new at all that is not rather bad! But you had better come and glance at the old again, tomorrow evg, and let us compare Notes.

Yours always truly

T. Carlyle
